A Bit About The Tattoo Project 2023
The Tattoo Project was an Artist run social engaged project that took place in The Blind Pig, Thomas Street, Limerick on Saturday 1st June and Sunday 2nd June 2013. I put a call out on Social media to 'Come Show Me Your Ink' with a promise of a free photographic portrait. The response was massive and an additional day had to be added to handle the volume of people arriving. The images were later shared on a Facebook page which received approx 500,00 hits and later became an outdoor exhibition of 50 works in the Milk Market Limerick.
It was during the process that I realised that you could quite easily reshape the event into a documentary. Most people were very eager to recall their stories and the tales behind their ink. Stories ranging from funny, whimsical and some downright tragic. This was the germinating seed for The Tattooed Lady Project.
